- About the Products -

Steam Distillation

After harvesting the plant part which we want to extract the aromatic oils from, we chop them into smaller bits to fit as much into the drum as possible. The drum has gone through years of reinvention, until Michael finally customised the right size and shape for optimal extraction. He experimented with various fuel to get the consistent heat needed for the drum, which takes up to 4 hours of wood fuel for a 120kg load. It is retrofitted with a chimney or funnel on top and connected to the water condenser, with a coil that cools the steam. What condenses will be water and oil, which later goes into the separation container to sit and separate.

Virgin Coconut Oil

Mature coconuts are selected for their oil extraction - it is grated, and water added so coconut milk can be squeezed out of the flesh. It is sealed in 2 containers at room temperature for 24 hours for fermentation. It separates into water and curd and between it is the oil. The curd is manually separated by hand, and the coconut oil is carefully filtered out several times to get pure oil. It has to immediately be sealed up so it doesn't remain exposed to air. Virgin coconut oil means it is cold-pressed instead of being heated up. Inducing aromas in coconut oil is possible by soaking strong-smelling plant parts, like orange and lemon skin, in coconut oil. (Our moisturisers come pre-mixed with essential oils.)
