I have Some Good New and Bad News... - Tomorrow's Hope Nias Updates

Tomorrow's Hope (Kommunitas Harapan Hari Esok) - January 2023 issue

Teens, graduates and local supporters of the Tomorrow's Hope non-profit school celebrate Christmas in the school hall.

Founders and chairman of the Yayasan Harapan Hari Esok (Tomorrow's Hope) children's home give speeches during a Christmas rally in Dec 2022.

Good News

Another year has gone and yet again we have much to thank our Lord Jesus. For by His grace, mercy, compassion and love, He provides abundantly to meet our daily needs.

“... but whoever keeps His word, in Him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him...” 1 John 2:5

Our Christmas celebration was held on the 12th December 2022 and our guests included teachers from the Lentera School, members of the Yayasan Harapan Hari Esok and friends from the local community. After about two years, the coming together as a community for this occasion is a blessing and although it was a wet evening, it is another clear reminder to all of us of His faithfulness.

We thank the many friends who had contributed for the Christmas presents.

Ibu Sintha, Ibu Lina and Ibu Abigail had the microphone (image above) to assure the community of the ongoing commitment of the Yayasan to provide a brighter future to the underpriviledged children in Nias. Also highlighted in the sharing is the partnership between the Home and the Lentera School with the priority that every child of the Home will have a place in the school.

Teenages who graduated from Tomorrow's Hope in Nias, Indonesia hold their university degree certs, a new milestone in their life.

In June 2022, Marinus and Rizky graduated from Senior High School. Both Marinus, who had been with us for about 12 years and Rizky, who was with us for about 6 years, are now undergraduates at the Pelita University in Jakarta. (Image left) Standing in the middle of the boys, is Oferius Zega who is our current social worker. He has a degree in Biblical Theology.

Please continue to join us in praying for more social workers, with fervent hearts to serve in the children’s home.

As to better enhance the understanding of the Home and the school, our children’s schoolmates were invited to the grounds and dormitories in the Center. Since most the guests come from well to do backgrounds, we hope that with this exposure it presents an understanding to the lifestyle of simplicity practiced at the Center. On the 6th January 2023, it was back to school for all the 21 children (19 children are studying at Lentera School while two boys are studying at nearby local schools) and we thank the Lord for His providence that once again the children are blessed with school uniforms, shoes, etc. They also look forward to the new semester.

Please join us in prayer that these children who grow up without their parents care and comfort will still always be that salt and light for Jesus Christ.

Bad News

Pak Niko, who was involved in an occupational accident, is now paralysed. For more than a decade, even though he is an unbeliever, he had faithfully served the Home in maintaining all our machines, water pumps, vehicles and electrical appliances. We recently visited him and his wife (in red) at their relative’s residence in Medan and it truly saddens me to see a dear friend in such circumstances. However, after all these years, he finally asked to be prayed for and we did just that towards the end of our visit.

Please join us in prayer for Pak Niko, firstly that he will come to receive Jesus Christ as his saviour and then for a healing miracle. Pak Niko is going for another operation in the coming months. He has 3 children who are all in school and we are looking for ways to give a one-time love offering to help out in the family’s expenses. If you are led by the Holy Spirit to participate in giving to his needs, please let us know.

God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10

There are still children under our care who do not have a sponsor. If you are led by the Holy Spirit to commit and to sponsor a child please let us know. As our Lord says in John 4:35, "... open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for the harvest."
